This year was the first year that I am able to get gifts for the whole family, it isn’t much, but everyone got something. A few of my extended family got a ‘family’ gift, mainly board games. Below are some tips on choosing a food family gift this season. Getting a family gift is less expensive than trying to get something for everyone and easier to please because it can be shared with the whole family.
1. If you are able to spend a little more, a gaming system like a Nintendo Wii is a perfect option,, with some extra controllers and maybe a gift card for buying games.
2. For smaller budgets a game night pack would be perfect, a board game and some pop corn or other snacks.
3. A movie night would be great too, try to give a gift card for the actual movie if you don’t know what they like of have seen, add in some snacks and such and you are set!
4. If they are on the move a lot, like traveling, things like puzzle books, portable dvd players and cards would be nice.
5. If the family home schools or a family with several children and annual pass to a nearby zoo or park would be perfect.
6. For a family that likes to cook or entertain making a homemade recipe book would be a welcomed gift. .
7. A favorite of mine is an ornament to commemorate something that happened that year- graduation, new baby, new home, etc.
8. Getting chocolate of any kind is usually well received, as long as no one is allergic, get creative and find something new and delicious- lots of taste testing is allowed to find the right one!
9. For a family that is struggling, gift cards to several stores could help them out without making them feel like charity, try to get local stores and general items, like Wal-Mart, publix, etc.
10. An advent basket that holds a little present each day for each of the family members is a cute and semi-inexpensive gift.
Shopping for a family does not have to be hard, sometimes it is as simple as a little gift card for each member can be perfect!

These are great ideas, Eve! I love them! I especially like the board game and popcorn one!

Thanks Lisa!
Great gift ideas! I’m glad lots of taste testing is recommended for the chocolate. :)

I am in the same boat! We are getting married in May so we have to save every dime we can. I received a book for my birthday that i thought i would mention to you because it has helped me find more time for my family. We’re a hectic type family with not a lot of time. One day i opened this book and couldn’t believe i didn’t open it sooner. There are so many things to do like cook with your children (which mine love to do) tons of crafts (which we love to do as well)
My mother in law said it was recommended by PBS Kids while my youngest was over there for the night. Also, I’ve recently picked up scrap booking, and this book helps a lot with that. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to find a great idea for a gift, as well as save some $$.
Sorry forgot to mention the book i’m refering to is called Together: Creating family Traditions by Rondi Hillstrom Davis and Janell Sewall Oakes
It’s really a great help for me to stumble upon an article like this. Many times I have been in a dilemma wherein i have to get a gift for famiy and close friends and up to the last minute I still don’t have any idea what should i get! That scenario always happen when Christmas is fast approaching. Well, that rambling is already gone. Upon reading this article about Gift Ideas, it makes a lot of difference. You will just have to choose from the categories on what should you buy, and from there you can now stop worying about unique gift ideas and start heading to a store to buy one.
nice ideas for gifts….
