My house is a mess, we had company on Tuesday and it was so beautiful in here, we had cleaned everything. But as it is now, well, I wouldn’t let anyone in the door if they showed up! So this is what we are going to do, and you can do it with me. No matter what your doing right now, stop! Grab your egg timer, or go buy one from Amazon- they are only like 6 bucks!

We are gonna do a quick 15 minute pickup! First go get the supplies; a bag for trash, a rag to dust, furniture polish, and windex. (Or any supplies YOU need) now set your timer for 15 minutes.

Now we are going to go around the room and collect any trash, ignoring anything else, just pick up trash. Then put the bag down in the room, we can take it out later. Now go around the room picking up anything that does not belong in the room, dishes, socks, hair spray, etc. Put all of that in one pile or in a container for now. This way you don’t waste time putting it up right now.

Next we are going to brush off the couch cushions, brush any crumbs or mess to the floor and fluff the pillows. Then we need to dust off the coffee table and put everything that goes on the Coffee table back on it neatly, we don’t need to worry about organizing the magazines, put them in a neat pile. Same with other items that ‘belong’ on the table.

Then comes the vacuum , don’t try to do the couch or the pillows, just do a quick round in the living room, remember to get the stuff we brushed off the couch. Now quickly dust the rest of the living room. Put up the cleaning supplies and trash. Now relax – you can tackle the box of ’stuff’ we left in a little bit.

I know that sounds like a lot, but surprisingly, it really won’t take that long, most of you will still have time left on the timer. Something about knowing you are being timed really helps you get things done!
